Ballard Bike Shed

This bike shed designed to be an integrated and high-visible part of a front-yard garden in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The site, as a zero-property line development, did not contain extra space for bike storage, this shed needed to be both functional and a design feature of the front garden. To fit cohesively with its environment, the shed highlights and follows the structure of the main living room window in the house, serving as a transition between the lower ground level and the higher floor level of the house, and extends the decorative elements and materials within the house to the front garden.

In addition to locked bike storage that is easily accessible from the front gate, the shed also provides storage for gardening supplies, houses controls for landscape lighting and watering, and a counter and utility sink for gardening and outdoor cooking activities. Beyond simply storing a bike, this shed provides a visual linchpin for the facade of the house.
